Orange Painting last attempt…for now – Knowing when to move on

Posted by Jessica on May 2, 2011 in Art |

I had quite a tough time trying to finish this orange…because although it looks alright, if you see the original picture of three pieces of fruit done by my teacher, it doesn’t have the same peely (technical term there) texture. However, for now it will do, I want to move on to new things and may return to this when I am better and wiser :)

For now the techiqe was as follows;

1. draw orange shape, mix orange colour and apply paint onto dry canvas by dragging the paint brush across, hopefully leaving some voids

2. once thoroughly dry prepare darker mix of orange using bluey colours that is relatively runny. Then paint a layer of clear water over the whole area of the orange, once you’ve done this drop the darker shade onto the orange around where you would like a shadow to be and allow to run. As with the apple this should create a shadow without a distinctive line, move the paper around to encourage the spread of the darker shade, or move it away from other areas.

3. Once dry again paint a little star type thing at the top…I have no idea what the technical name for that is, so star type thing it is :)

4. You can add shadow as with the other fruit…at the moment mine is still drying so I might add later.

Thanks for dropping by to see my progress :)

Ok so I don’t know how to quit so I had another go at the orange yesterday before moving onto skylines and now I’m happy with it :) Apparently I don't know when to quit...but now I'm happy with it :)
